Located in one of the best spots in Rio, just a block away from
the world famous Ipanema beach, the Mango Tree offers a relaxing
place to sleep, meet other travellers, and taste a chilled
caipirinha. At our hostel you will find the comforts of a guest
house (sprung mattresses, 100% cotton sheets, towels, a real
Brazilian style breakfast, and our famous gas heated power showers)
coupled with the warm welcome and atmosphere of a backpacker
hostel.
Ipanema is a safe residential district within easy reach of the
Sugar Loaf and Corcovado. As well as the beach, it offers a wide
range of bars and restaurants to suit all budgets, and plenty of
shopping opportunities such as the weekly Sunday Hippie Market.
The Mango Tree is based in a newly renovated 1930's
colonial style house in a quiet residential area. It has 7
private rooms (1 triple, 1 twin, 4 with en-suite, all
air-conditioned), 30 dorm beds, and all the facilities to make your
stay with us the most memorable of your trip.
Start each day by enjoying your breakfast outside on
our covered deck before heading out for a day of
sightseeing, adventure sports, or simply lazing around on Ipanema
beach, which is only 50 metres away. Relax in the garden sipping a
beer or fall asleep in a hammock underneath the mango tree. Check
your email on our free internet access, enjoy DVDs in the common
room, or sit in the lobby and enjoy a game with your
friends.
We work with a variety of local tour
operators who offer a range of trips from the classics
such as the Corcovado and Favela Tour, to the excitement of hang
gliding or a game at the Maracanã stadium. Our
English-speaking staff are always on hand to provide tips,
travel information, book tours and make recommendations.
Set up by an Anglo-Brazilian former travel journalist, and an
Australian with ten years experience in the hospitality industry,
the Mango Tree is a relaxed and tranquilescape from the frantic
pace of Rio de Janeiro, and, while we are on the doorstep of all
its exciting nightlife, our hostel is a quiet place to get a good
night's sleep.
